Not sure how reliable this is but I have heard from a good source that our friends down the road have breached financial rules and a points deduction is likely. Not sure how many when or if it will apply but if it this season could be a defining moment in their relegation fight.

IMHO any points deduction will be at a level to ensure they are not relegated.

I don't follow closely enough ... what's the difference between the Albion scenario and the Leicester one?

Even a measly 2 point deduction today would have them in the bottom 3 (on goal difference).

Though they are on decent form at the moment (unbeaten in 7, sadly) , so would probably escape even if a 4 or 5 point deduction was slapped on today. Knowing them, they would escape by a point, then continue the good form next season to steal promotion.

Most of their fans think they'll get away with a 2 points deduction a d it'll be next season now. But it's alarming how many championship teams are failing it, yet 115 City seems immune

I wonder how many other championship clubs are in a similar situation. Albion being charged now could just be the start. Aren’t Stoke City also being investigated?

I hate Albion as much as anyone, but this is just daft having looming points deductions with 4 games to go. That league is becoming a bit of a joke with all these deductions, that is potentially all three relegated sides with points deductions.

Football is in a bad place.

They will not be hit until next season.

I’ve read about 5 different reports today and all the football finance “experts” are convinced it will be. Supposedly it has to be done in the season the breach is discovered. All seem to think even if it’s not sorted when the season ends it will be applied retrospectively before end of May.

I’d like them to stay up by 2 points now, then have 3 deducted later on

Taking my wolves tinted glasses off though, they all know the rules at the start of the season. No one makes them breach it.

They do, but why is it coming out now? 4 games to go, massive implications on the relegation battle. It all just seems so random.

When did they submit their audited accounts ?

I reckon the EFL will wait to see where Albion finish. If they’re more than two points clear of the bottom 3 they’ll take the points off them this season. If the deduction would take them down they’ll delay it into next season.

Bit Leicester would be out the bottom 3 without the 6 point deduction and would I suspect challenge this sort approach ?

Hopefully they'll lose the last 4 ganes and get relegated regardless.

They have to submit accounts now earlier to show season action and to try ensure punishments are in the closest year ie this year in this example

So these accounts were submitted 31st December to league

Takes time to audit do checks etc and the calls are usually march and they then are charged

Nobody should be having any points deductions until Man City and Chelsea are dealt with first.
The whole thing is a complete farce, added to all the other rubbish that is now part of the once “beautiful game”.
Generally I’d agree, but THIS is West Bromwich Albion, so get the punishment served ASAP!

It's a big old financial mess down there in that Championship, and we're heading right into it ourselves.

Hopefully without the mess bit.

You may get your wish! Looks like they breached by around 4m which has a 4point deduction guideline but because they are improving year on year it’s cut to 3?
