Adam Armstrong

I was thinking more of our fans making their minds up about them after 3 minutes of football......
The best ones are the ones who decide before they’ve even played. I remember signing Jiminez and him being written off after half hour for Mexico in a friendly where he played on the wing

I don't mind him up top on his own as long as there are creative outlets either side or behind him as he's a clever runner off the ball and a good creator on the deck too.

It means we have no aerial presence though and we can't go direct at any point as he doesn't have the size or breakneck speed to do that.
We should play Tolu n Armstrong as a pair really....but our problem with doing that this season is it leaves us no option on the bench to change it.... probably rules us out in the last 20 mins of a game then...

Obviously lumping balls up in the air towards him isn't going to work, however we've seen if you play it into his feet his hold up play is good and he can find a team mate, with good passing.

Can play with his back to the goal and run the channels.

Raul started off here bang average . Then scuffed one in at Everton and it was onwards and upwards from there .

Hwang scored two against Newcastle early doors but hasn’t done much scoring in the last couple of seasons

Jota made a little cameo in a friendly at Peterborough and you could see in minutes there was something there .

Armstrong has been a very willing workhorse and seems a phenomenon athlete . Now he has a goal I hope he bags 4 or 5 more in the remaining games as he is nailed on for a champ berth.

Tolu can finish really well . He can also miss really well! But I suppose you have to be there to miss, as we found with Fabio who lacked that ability to be in the right place more often than not .

The dark horse is Rodrigo who really can finish well and create . He is the key pace that is needed for the championship.

Pace is precious that's where roddy will work in champ

You’re going to have to explain how Jiminez was bang average when he scored on his premier league debut.

They do seem to link up well
442 mane on the left wing Rodrigo on the right?

Rodrigo Andre Gomes Mane
Tolu Armstrong

And then added one more and a penalty against spurs up to December . 3 goals in 16matches in all competitions @30m obligation during which time he led the stats for missed big chances . At the time he wasn’t firing like he did subsequently.

Goals against Chelsea Bournemouth and spurs came in December and the rest is history but he did not hit the ground running .

Explanation satisfactory?

Steve Claridge got so much stick on here, but we never played to his strengths, ball to feet with his back to goal. He’d spin the defenders and get a shot or pass off.
We did lump the ball at head height.

Adam will work his socks off press has pace and can finish and get in right areas

He needs to play through the lines and to feet
Play the killer ball from midfield let him run at defence or as others suggested to feet turn and get a shot off

Lumping at him or lots of crosses is not the game for him

Ball on the floor from wide fine but aerial threat he is not

Balls into channels

Very generous. I'd say never wanted to come and it showed in every minute he was on the pitch.

You can see Raul 'scuffing one in' at the end of this video too

I told my mate I'd rather still have Kevin Doyle on the walk to Molineux for the Chelsea game.

Quite incredible how often I'm wrong.

I also said how disappointing Rui Patricio was in commanding his box and kicking the ball. Christ.

Think he got it mixed up with the Burnley goal which was his second goal for us i think…

Not really as you worded that he was bang average BEFORE his goal at Everton, which was his first game

No I didn’t . I said he started bang average. You’re correct he scored in his debut despite missing an easier 1 v 1 ( video above) He then scored 1 more goal from open play from August to December . He also missed 4 or 5 big chances in that time according to stats and I remember many of us were a bit nervous at a 30m non scoring centre forward .

The scuffer I was talking about was Chelsea . Looking at it again it wasn’t such a scuff but Kepa let it right through him so still shoukd have saved it , but it gave Raul confidence which he built on throughout the season . He didn’t however , excel from the start. Which was the point as you probably know .

Raul from December 2018 to his injury during Covid was class but his first three months statistically were bang average

thats pushing things! he was awful. we had bully and keane and mcghee played bloody claridge in the semi. criminal. claridge was way way beyond his sell by and never scored for us

tbf rui couldnt kick

I always think is inability to kick was overblown to be honest especially dead balls. We had a very rigid tactic to try and find Doc with almost every single dead ball, presumably as he’s quite big for a wing back and is good in the air. However that’s such a precision ball for any keeper. Had he been allowed to just thump it towards a CF he’d have been fine.

He also scored in the preseason friendly the week before. (was that celta / villareal?).

He reached a ball he had no right to and injured himself doing so.

Molineuxmix existed back then?

No, he most likely means the express & star boards (later 'molineux mix', later shut down to avoid getting sued).
Played for Wolves in 98 so it won't have been much time between him playing and the original MM starting u, if any ..

He might be wondering if he's made the right decision, missing out on at least one trip to Wembley with Southampton in the FA Cup semis and playoff favourites on current form...
