All good points. Personally I am not bothered either way if he stays or goes, but I just can't get away from the exceptionally poor squad.
It is blatantly true that a collection of players can actually not be good enough for the division they are in. We can argue about causes, and maybe RE carries part of the blame, but this squad is bottom of the league on more or less every metric.
The squad has no goals in it, two central midfielders who can't make a forward pass, and we have nothing on the bench.
I am not trying to be a RE cheerleader, I am a bit ambivalent, I can see both sides of the debate.
Why keep him?
You would think after this bruising debacle he is going to be extremely motivated for next season.
By keeping him and his team you save time in the planning an execution of the rebuild, you don't waste money on another set of pay-off and recruitment
We can only stack the squad with home grown eligible players, so this time maybe an uncle George special is not appropriate this time
I know this doesn't hold much water, but Fosun would have given him some assurances when he jointed, they may not want to appear to be untrustworthy (stop sniggering in the back)
So, I get all the emotions. He has hardly made an impact on this collection of extremely poor players - personally I think players account for 95% of your league position.
For me the rebuild time and additional expenses of getting shot are the strongest argument for keeping him. But it's borderline.
Fair enough comments, but one or two I query,
1) by keeping Edwards and his team, we may save time and cost on a rebuild and pay off/new recruitment,..
But, this team is clearly not good enough, Edwards has pretty much alienated most , if not all the players, through his critisim, and "man management skills".
If Edwards stays, he will surely have to work with some of the current squad, How is that ever going to work out ?, he carries no respect, and can not influence confidence in any of this current squad,
Furthermore i just do not think, Edwards carries the right profile, that would inspire the right type of new signings, signings that we desperately need.
Why would any new player be inspired by a manager, that has such a cowardice style of play, and such a critical voice against his own players, when it all goes wrong.
2) I query that you mention, we can only stack the squad of Homegrown players,
I dont see this, as we all assume, most ( i wont say all) of this current squad are surplus to requirements, ( no matter who the manager is next season), therefore its more than likely we are going to have several non homegrown places available within the squad, im not 100% sure, but i assume the squad rules are still 17 non HG, and 8 HomeGrown allowed in a squad of 25, with under 21 players still not needing to be declared,
Therefore if these rules are still in force, and we get rid of many of the current bunch of non triers in our current squad, then as far as i can see, We are going to need Uncle Jorge a hell of a lot this summer, ( hopefully starting with a decent manager ), but certainly with a gem or 2 or even 3 or 4 players,
Because without Uncle Jorge helping steer the Good ship Wolves this summer, i truely fear we will only struggle next season, and we may even suffer the double dip
Of course just my opinion on things as they stand, and i of course respect your opinion too
