2025/26 Season Mr Rob Edwards and his Press Conferences

Interestingly, they had Leeds fans on the show and they were all fearing the drop. Poor recruitment and lack of goals. Same as Burnley.

Odd that. Some of my relatives are Leeds fans and are optimistic they will stay up. Some of their summer signings looking very good in pre season. Stach apparently highly impressive.

There very much is a consensus amongst our own fans, in the media and amongst rival fans that we could well get relegated. Anyone denying that must have their head buried in the sand.

Still more transfer dealings to go, though. We've still got Fabio, Hwang, Sasa and probably Joao Gomes all to sell if we get the right offers. The only personnel who is not for sale at any price is Jeff Shi.

I think Friday's PC will be very interesting. VP comes over as a pretty straight guy who, within reason, says what he thinks. I think it will be hard for him to hide his disappointment at the window so far and the pre-season performances. It will be interesting how he presents all this to us. I hope he does not come on and say 'all is fine' as this patently is not so and I don't believe this is his view. I also hope he can give us some inside stuff on who is likely to come in, if not names then positions. If I'm honest I expect to come away from this disappointed.

I think a few weeks back it was only Wolves fans who were suggesting we could go down, but having seen our window up to now, a lot of others seem to be thinking the same. I've listened to a number of preview podcasts this week and a lot of decent journalists and pundits are predicting us to go down. Of course these people are often wide of the mark, but I do think there is becoming a general consensus that we will really struggle this season. This is the combined prediction of all football writers on The Athletic.

Don’t pay these people any attention, whether they be ex players, journalists, former coaches etc.

Did any of them see the really bad start by City last season or did they predict that United and Spurs would finish 15th. and 17th.?

Preseason predictions are often wildly wrong but my posting of The Athletic writers' predictions wasn't to suggest that we're in trouble because that's what they predict, but as a reply to @SteveBullsKnee claim that:

"The only folk tipping wolves to be relegated are our fans! The bookies don’t see it, vast majority of pundits don’t see it but fat Dave from Tipton is absolutely sure on Facebook that we won’t get 6 points all season and JSL is “championship at best”

So a consensus of 30 plus writers at The Athletic are tipping us to go down (as are pundits on a few other football podcasts I've listen to). Many see one of the promoted teams staying up and us going down instead. Not all of course. Personally, I think they're wrong. We'll stay up but it will be a very difficult season unless our transfer window takes a dramatic turn for the better.

Nah, Fat Dave from Tipton says you're wrong according to SBK and, as we all know, he is never wrong.

We could, but we probably won't. That's not having a head buried in the sand, it's just employing a bit of common sense. Way stronger than all three promoted clubs and no worse than the likes of Brentford (who I think are in much more danger than us) or West Ham

I should have added or made clear that people in general shouldn’t bother with predictions ……didn’t mean you in particular.

So 2 bigger clubs than us did far worse than predicted and that's supposed to make us feel safer? Happier?

The problem is that inaccurate predictions cut both ways. A club can only do better than expected if others do worse than expected. For example, we also did worse than the experts predicted last season.

TBF All of those who predict us to struggle are making the point that we have sold Cunha and RAN, two outstanding players, and so far, have nothing like them as replacements. So from a position of 16th, we are weaker and it looks irrational wishful thinking to believe we will finish higher with the current squad.. All predictions should really wait till the transfer window closes, as any forecast of us doing better than last season, depends on as yet unknowables. However, right now, with what we have, we aren't getting out the bottom 6...and that's the most positive I can see.

Also, predicting outcomes is much of the fun of sport! We're all going to do it, anyway.

Talksport this morning were tipping the three Bs for relegation: Burnley, Brentford and Bournemouth. Predicted Wolves would struggle but didn’t see them getting relegated.
no way bournemouth go down and brentford will be OK too. it 3 from us, leeds, burnley, sunderland and possibly west ham

Our only hope is that Sunderland and Leeds signings are just there to pickup a wage . Otherwise I do think we will be struggling this year .

we lack pace throughout the 11 and creativity. So we will really struggle to push teams back without pace. So they will just push higher up the pitch knowing this IMO.

Re your first line……..I was responding to a previous post and showing that the concept of an ‘established’ club is meaningless. Any club can have a very quick dip in fortunes , eg, City, United and Spurs last season, although City got back on track.
So, I think you misinterpreted my meaning and didn’t suggest that their bad run should make us happy.

As for predictions, I just have no interest in them…..they just seem meaningless.

OK, yes, agreed on predictions. Certainly supporters and pundits predicting final league tables with 2 more weeks of transfer dealing to go does seem meaningless. Though I think business owners surely must try and predict what the future holds? How else can they make decisions today, if they don't spend at least some time anticipating the future?

I disagree on the established club. It has an objective, mathematical meaning. Several ways of looking at it. COnsecutive seasons in this league, for example. Or take the 6 clubs that have never been relegated from this league. Or just count up seasons in the top flight in the past 30 years.

I see "established" as more of a spectrum though, with those 6 ever present clubs at one end as 100% established Premier League clubs. Plus Man City. Villa ,Newcastle, perhaps next. We're kind of middling, thanks to our recent spell. I would say only the Sky 6 are truly, 100% established, as even Villa, Newcastle, Everton, West HAm could get relegated if they have one bad season.

In 2019/20, I think, Arsenal were 10th at New Year, mid way through the season. I remember it being said that this was their lowest position at half way for 70 years or something. Took a minute to sink in. 10th..their worst position at this point for so long. That is what established is. When being 10th half way through a season is your worst for 70 years. It would be the best position in 70 years for most clubs! They are established and unless their is some global catastrophe, they , and Liverpool, Man U and Chelsea will never get relegated.

VP is saying the right things, and at least trying to put a positive spin, shame he and all Wolves fans will soon see we are not good enough to stay in this league beyond this season.

My only hope is that we have been penny pinching to spend big on quality for the last 3/4 players, as that will indeed make the difference if the case.
