2025/26 Season Mr Rob Edwards and his Press Conferences

Agreed which is why you have to some how from villa forest United brentford Liverpool

Go unbeaten

He needs minimum 10 points between now and Jan to keep touch

I understand why hes saying what hes saying at pressers

He's also got a depleted squad and a team who have showed nothing like this form with 2 points from 12....

We beat 2 teams in the top half of the table last season. VP basically kept us up by beating the relegation fodder.

One top half team we beat was Villa (the other Bournemouth). We've had a really good record against them in this PL spell. Either we'll surprise everyone and snatch something from them again. Or it's going to be a big balancing out of our recent matches against them.

I had hoped that Edwards might bring some fresh ideas and a more uplifting discourse.

Unfortunately it is standard coachspeak, fairly meaningless statements pronounced as
if they are profound breakthroughs. No tactical insight, no clear plan as to how to
create more chances, the key failing. Just try harder.

Not sure if Edwards is going to be able to handle the reaction to yet more defeats.

Sounds incredibly defeatist already, although likely reflective of how I’m interpreting things at the moment.

The comment about not being able to click fingers and raise morale alarms me the most, that is the absolute number one task of a new manager.
I did not think he was referring to morale more the errors and playing style.

For me all press conferences are a waste of time .
We have a weak scared and unbalanced team. A low cost managerial team . A **** CEO.
Shut the curtains , lock out the world open a few bottles look at the result on Sunday at 4pm .
It’s that bad . It hurts to care.

I dunno, I feel like Wenger had a lot of presence in his own way. Kind of iconic. That guy always got his team off the mat leadership-wise (until the very end of his career). I admire that in a leader.
We need to get a manager like that, then all we'd need is some players like Tony Adams, Patrick Viera and Thierry Henry.

Let’s hope the performance is better than the press conference:

No magic wand - tick
Players need to show effort - tick
They want to do better - tick

It’s all basic, lacking authority and so entirely predictable.

Fingers crossed it’s just lip service and he’s much better on the training ground.
"Nobody's going to do that for us" is his version of Dave Jones' 'keep plugging away'.

In both press conferences he's looked nervous as hell.

I guess we'll find out on Sunday!

I just hate the messages. The website says 'anything can happen on the day' following an interview with Johnstone, like we're some sort of plucky League 2 side in the FA Cup.

We aren't playing peak Barca. This is Villa FFS. They're a decent side, but they aren't unbeatable by any stretch.

We really are pre-Lambert days again. Depressing.

Gaby Agbonlahor has never had a good word for us. I barely recognised him as he seems to have found the pie shop en route to the talk****e studio and they’re obviously given him a loyalty card ! Boy has he ballooned! Or perhaps he is now so full of **** he can’t help it? Either way I hope he goes full on Mr Creosote and balloons til he bursts. Bon appetit

He predicted us to finish on 13 points this morning, a handful of draws (including 2 against Villa) and a solitary win against Fulham penultimate game of the season

The downgrading of our club continues under the clowns that own it.

I do find the journos questions stunningly tedious, too. That conference could be any for almost any team at any time , it was so full of cliche and lacking in detail.

Why never any questions on what's gone wrong with Arias? Why does Lopez get hardly any time when he's looked no worse than the rest of them? Why isn't Tolu fit? How does it feel knowing that if we lose, this will be the 2nd worst start in the first division since it started in 1888? etc Instead just smug stuff about how the "lads are working really hard".

Maybe we'd learn more about Rob if the interviewers got a bit more challenging on how badly we are doing. Probably my age, born in a differenrt era and all that, but I think we are past treading lightly with these players scared to upset their fragile confidence. They need to be kick started into action somehow!

If Jurgen Klopp or Pep (or Nuno!) walked in last week and said he was managing them from now on, then there would be an instant morale boost. Suddenly the players would be woken out of their slumber and raise motivation. You'd suddenly find Tolu (and the rest) super fit all of a sudden as he'd be working out 24/7 to get out there!

We need to start scoring & having more than a couple of shots per game.

I would be fairly sure they know , they just can't manage to achieve it. They try, but it always breaks down with a poor pass, poor control, appalling cross... or just being too slow so turning round and going back. It needs something very different to what we've seen for 5 months now.

Imo, they’re too tepid, scared of going near the final third.
Too much messing around with the ball in midfield like a bunch of grannies.

For gods sakes, be men and attack. .

He definitely had something, a certain gravitas and was a bit of a trailblazer in terms of being the first successful continental manager. Still don’t see him as a rabble rouser though.

We haven’t won a league game since April, Villa are on a good run of form, you’re right though we can beat them.

I’m sure Edwards is telling the players we can beat them, however we know we can only, beat them with hard work, organisation, concentration and some bravery on the ball. He’s got to get the players in the right mindset.

It’s a difficult balance, however they’re in the main international footballers who should have the resilience and mental strength to put in good performances individually and collectively.

Fair enough, a rabble rouser he wasn't.

Jesus wept some real tripe talked on here, when did Wenger (sorry Whinger) manage a bunch of dead beats and work for a serial liar, the comparison is ridiculous.

Don't worry he'll soon be on Monday Night Football explaining how he out foxed Pep!

What, aren't you utterly enthralled by a blow-by-blow breakdown of Dan Bentley's fitness situation?

Put me right off me dinner that. And I'd got a lovely pack of After Eight mints for dessert too!

Sadly, they’re lack one vital ingredient - top level quality.

The major issue is……..

The level of competition is higher in the prem than the leagues these guys came from before where many were not stand out performers or consistent scorers.

Then the level of international football they play in is less technically and physically demanding than a premiership game…… in some of the games the lads have played in you would say the level is close to league one level.

We have a squad bar probably 5, are not close to good enough for the prem and debatably not good enough for mid table championship.

Spot on. The questions asked and lack of any real comment on lots of the above is really poor.

Like who? Wenger wasn’t larger than life, Dean Saunders is.
He wasn’t inspirational though was he, and Wenger very much was larger than life.

Maybe read whole sentences next time, though focusing on things that make you feel better without context is probably going to be a very useful trait for you to have in the coming months.

He seems very vain to me. Such sorts don't take criticism well. If, as expected, we lose every game before Nuno turns up - and West Ham play us off the park - that'll be the day when the f

I'd say we're back to the McCarthy days in the Premier League, when throwing games against Man Utd by playing the reserves and saving the ' stars' for the big 6 pointers against the likes of Burnley was the norm.....
Unfortunately now it's hard to differentiate between our reserves and first team players and we can't even beat the likes of Burnley.
