Keeping RAN as a forward player would not be a wise move. Not enough end product to get the goals and/or assists you'd require from a forward over a 38 game season.

I think the team who finishes higher should be rewarded with home advantage in a hypothetical one leg, otherwise where is the incentive to play to win after securing a playoff place?
